Jones Island Marine S.P. Ferry-In/Boat-In

Directions from Mt Vernon


  • Travel on I-5 north through Mount Vernon about 5 miles to the town of Burlington.
  • Take the exit for Highway 20 west to the town of Anacortes (about 12 miles).
  • Follow the signs to the San Juan Ferry Terminal, and take the ferry to Orcas Island Village.


  • Follow the Horseshoe Highway for 2.75 miles until you see signs pointing to West Sound.
  • Turn left here, and drive 4 miles to the Deer Harbor Resort. There is no official tent camping here, but they offer a variety of lodging, from hotel rooms to attic apartments and small cabins.


  • Set out from the marina, and padle 2.5 miles to the South Cove of Jones Island. You can see Jones Island in the upper left corner of the photo below.
