Far and away, the easist way to approach Douglas Creek Recreation Site is from the north. Just 7 miles west of Waterville, turn right/south on Road H SW. This road is paved nearly the entire to the entrance near the Douglas Creek Canyon Trailhead.
Most of the dispersed campsites are in the north surrounded by stark but visually stunning vegetation.
Driving to the south end of the Recreation Site requires nerves of steel and a high-clearance 4 wheel drive truck due to the Creek washing over the road in several places, frequent washouts, and steep gravel patches that will turn your knuckles white. Yet, this leads to the most beautiful stretch of Douglas Creek that can only be dubbed Nature's Water Park.
