Salmon La Sac Campground

The Salmon La Sac Ranger Station, originally built as a Railroad Depot by French miners, operated until 1970, and was placed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places in 1974.

Cle Elum River campsites include many double sites and concrete parking pads, while Cooper River campsites feature vintage CCC fireplaces on native materials.

Most of the CCC stone fireplaces are still in use, but others have been medically retired and re-purposed by the local chipmunks.

The Cle Elum is the more robust of the two rivers, drawing campers from their sites, and rafters from the entire area.

Most rafters enter the Cle Elum River near the Salmon La Sac Bridge and exit just beyond the small "waterfall" at Red Mountain C.G.

The area is attractive to cross-country skiers and snow-shoers in the winter...
